Why Asheville Catholic?

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.  ~1 Timothy 4:12
Asheville Catholic School is a private, inter-parochial elementary and middle school committed to academic excellence and spiritual development. We welcome families from all religious, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds into our school community.  We ascribe to three core values:

Faith

Faith is more than a religion class. It is an ever-present and necessary part of our curriculum. Through daily prayer, Mass and religious education, we enhance students’ learning and growth.

Learning

Lifelong learning is our goal. Only through our commitment to continuous improvement can we guide students in becoming effective, confident, self-directed learners. Our academics prepare your children for a life in a world God created.

Community

Community is our foundation. Integrity, leadership, and respect are our core elements. Our faith community shares in the responsibility of developing each student’s potential and promoting the mission of our school.

From PK to 8th Grade

Shaping Tomorrows Leaders
Every student has God-given gifts and it is our honor to help develop these gifts from their first day to their last. We provide a variety of instructional approaches to support individual learning. All members of our faith community share in the responsibility of developing each student's potential and of promoting the mission of our school.

Faith

Asheville Catholic School is dedicated to spreading the Good News each day through the teachings of the Catholic Faith. Our environment offers students many opportunities to cultivate their spirituality, develop their faith, and learn self-discipline as they grow into responsible citizens of the world.

Learning

Asheville Catholic School considers technology an essential component of education in the 21st century and seeks to integrate its use throughout the learning process. Students are given the opportunity to communicate, collaborate, and develop skills that are essential to success in both the real and virtual world environments. Here are some of the technology resources at ACS:
  • Each classroom is equipped with a Smart Board and equipment for virtual learning.
  • Grades 6-8 receive a school-issued Chromebook to take home.
  • Grades 3-5 have 1 to 1 devices in their classroom
  • Grades PK-2 have devices in their classroom and a mobile lab available to them.
The Sister Anita Sheerin Media Center houses more than 8,000 books and materials for students. There is also access to electronic resources through online subscriptions and databases. Students are encouraged to explore their personal reading interests through the library collection. Some of the media center’s more popular programs include Battle of the Books for middle school students, and participation in the North Carolina Children’s Book Award programs for both elementary and middle school students.

Community

At Asheville Catholic School, we believe in cultivating a supportive school community which recognizes the dignity, needs and diversity of all individuals.  We also believe in building a sense of community beyond the walls of our school through outreach and service to others.

Community Outreach

One of the most important aspects of religious education is service to others. Each class volunteers on its own outreach project. At an early age, ACS students discover that everyone, even the youngest among us, can make a difference.

Student Mentoring

Student Mentoring: At Asheville Catholic School, the youngest and the oldest learn from each other thanks to innovative pairings of students in our “Big Friends” program. By matching upper grade students with younger students, little ones receive encouragement and assistance from positive role models, while older students learn about nurturing and responsibility. This program fosters a sense of community for all students.

7x7

With our faith as the bull’s eye of our culture, the principles found in Lead Like Jesus are the concentric rings surrounding it.  Lead Like Jesus is our term for the 7 Virtues and the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  Simply put, the timeless values within Lead Like Jesus make up the fabric of who God designed us to be.  We know that if we instill these principles within our students, then they can go on to do just as our mission statement says;  Become Christian leaders who change the world.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Asheville Catholic School's mission is to inspire our students to change the world as Christian leaders.  With this end in mind, we accept all who are open to learning about how God guides us, through the teachings of Christ, to love Him above all, and love others as ourselves.  As part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte, we welcome all with open arms.
