Frequently Asked Questions About Fund the Vision

What is the Fund the Vision, and how does it differ from other fundraisers at Asheville Catholic School?

Fund the Vision is a campaign to solicit unrestricted contributions from parents, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni, faculty, staff, parishioners and friends of Asheville Catholic School to defray the costs of a Catholic education that tuition revenue alone does not cover. Donations to Fund the Vision meet needs in the current yearly operating budget, helping to sustain and improve the School in all areas.  Fund the Vision helps us to “bridge the gap” between what it costs to educate a child at ACS and our tuition income.

Why should I give to Fund the Vision when I already pay so much in tuition?

Tuition alone does not cover the cost of educating a child at Asheville Catholic School. Philanthropy is an essential part of our communal life together and, like most private schools, ACS relies on monies other than tuition to help meet the yearly operating costs.  After tuition, the largest source of yearly income is Fund the Vision, making it vital to the School’s financial health.

Why not increase the tuition if it does not cover all the costs of education?

As part of our mission, we strive to make a Catholic education available to all who seek it, so we minimize tuition and tuition increases.  Raising tuition to meet all costs would mean that many families would be unable to send their children to Asheville Catholic School.  In addition, contributions to Fund the Vision are tax-deductible, whereas tuition is not.  This gives each family an opportunity to take advantage of tax incentives related to donating through Fund the Vision.

What is our goal for this year’s Fund the Vision?  What will it fund?

Our goal for Fund the Vision is $75,000 and will support all areas of Asheville Catholic School, including curricular enhancements, ongoing professional development for our teachers, technology in the classrooms, campus improvements, scholarship assistance and more.  More importantly, we have a goal of 100% participation from each of our families. Please join us and help us reach 100% participation from the entire school community!

How much should I give to Fund the Vision?

There are three ways you can contribute to Fund the Vision.

  1.  Prayer:  We ask that you commit to a habit of praying for Asheville Catholic School.  Pray that we thrive in our vision, and in bringing more young people closer to God.  Some ideas include offering a daily rosary for the intentions of the school.  Lighting a prayer candle at Mass each week, or each time you attend.
  2. Your talents:  We ask that you consider the ways in which you can offer your time and talents to volunteer at ACS.  There are many events on the calendar that need YOU to succeed.  We also have a Parent/Faculty Association (PFA), and daily opportunities to help.
  3. Your financial generosity;  Of course, we rely heavily on the philanthropy of our constituents.  The income we gain from tuition falls about $300,000 short of our operating expenses.  So, we are always seeking to fill in this gap.  YOUR generosity is needed to make that happen!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               What you give is up to you; the important thing is that you give. We welcome and appreciate all gifts, no matter the amount.

What if I can only give a little? Should I bother?

Absolutely!!   Every gift helps us reach our goals.  We would be delighted with any gift you are able to make.

Why do we have Fund the Vision in addition to other fundraising?

Fund the Vision receives funds directly from the donor and the donor receives no goods or services in return.  As a 501 (c)(3) charity, the tax benefits of giving to Fund the Vision make it attractive. There is very little overhead to Fund the Vision and all monies collected go directly to school operations.  Additionally, many corporations match Fund the Vision donations, which can more than double your gift.

Don’t we get money from the Diocese?

Yes, but these funds are limited and are often restricted to specific needs, such as facility maintenance, or professional development.
