Lynda McArthur: Academic Support Specialist

I can hardly remember a time in my life when I wasn’t working with children in some capacity. I became an aunt at age 10 and immediately began babysitting for my nephews. I taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School in the Methodist church where I  began my faith formation as a Christian. My first career was in the corporate sector, working for the U.S. Government and IBM. During this time, I continued to volunteer with church and community youth groups. When my husband and I married and began our family, I returned home for ten years  to raise our two boys. When our youngest entered elementary school, I followed as a substitute teacher for our local Catholic school in Maryland, volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and religious education teacher for my own children, and completed my Masters Degree in Teaching at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. I (primarily) taught third grade for ten years before moving to Asheville, where I taught Title I Reading Intervention in Buncombe County Schools before joining Asheville Catholic School to teach fourth grade for two years. Although I announced my retirement from full-time teaching in June 2017, God has led me back to this amazing community….first as a volunteer tutor and now as a part-time faculty member providing reading and math intervention support. I feel blessed to still be a part of this wonderful place. In my free time, I like to read, take walks in nature, spend time with my family, and volunteer in the community.
