Asheville Catholic School is a Pre-K through 8th grade school that is fully accredited through AdvanceED.
Asheville Catholic School strives to educate the whole child: spiritually, emotionally, socially, intellectually, artistically, and physically. The school follows the educational curriculum developed and supported by the Charlotte Diocese Education Office, which is in full compliance with all state education requirements under the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to succeed in any rigorous high school academic program by providing a firm foundation in fundamental knowledge and skills; encouraging breadth of intellectual exposure and depth of study; and inspiring creativity and critical analysis. Within the structure of this curriculum, our teachers strive to meet the needs of each student, while challenging all students to fulfill their academic potential. Our curriculum is a continuously evolving one, as demanded by our increasingly complex and ever-changing world.
The core curriculum – language arts, math, science, social studies and religion – is the backbone of our academic programs. Emphasis on the core curriculum is a well-proven route to preparing students for their future, regardless of the academic path they may choose.
Throughout the school year, students are assigned projects designed to enhance the core curriculum. In addition to the standard course of study, all students receive regular instruction in music, art, Spanish, computer technology, library media skills, and physical education. These courses allow students to broaden their academic exposure, explore particular interests, and challenge their special talents.
Curriculum enhancements include programs such as MathCounts, Accelerated Reader, Declamation Contest, Geography Bee, Science Fair and Spelling Bee. Quarterly cultural and fine arts programs are offered for the entire school. Middle School students select additional Fine Arts electives each semester.
